Yep 2 nuts under the back cover which are marked as remove.Near the wifi card.
They are not required on the laptop.
Also why not do a cpu upgrade when carrying out the service?
Also the copper heat sink mod is well worth the time or a "copper" penny polished.
This model does over heat due to dust and the best way is bios upgrade and fan on all the time a moving fan makes it harder for te dust to build up.
This is the main difference between laptops and desktops the fan is on all the time in a desktop.
Regards.

Very helpful guide, thanks. I changed the fan on my DV6-3037CA, although not exactly the same, it gave me good hints on how to do it. I found the fan on ebay for a very low price by the way.

I tried to follow your direction to replace the fan. I'm stuck on how to remove the palmrest -- it seems that there are some attachment to the body near the touchpad. I don't see any screws I'm missing to remove (when I look from the other side). Am I missing something?

I ordered a new HSF and then took the fan out. Try www.chilternitparts.com Just type the part number of the HSF which ends in .001

My fan is noisy also so I plan on taking my DV6449US apart. However, I do not think I need a whole new HSF, I just want the fan. How did you know what fan to get? HP only sells the whole assembly.........thanks and good guide.

@Taras
Hello Taras, yes you will. The motherboard needs to be completely removed before you can remove the HSF (Heat Sink and Fan). When you rebuild the laptop put some thermal compound on the CPU then attach the HSF.

Nice guide, thanks. Just one question. If I want just to clean the fan I have to totally disassemble the laptop as you did ? i have dv6000 and it gets overheated often and suts down (fan is working though).
