This laptop came to me with two lines on the screen and then the backlight would fail making the screen dark and unreadable. Possible causes are LCD screen or screen cable the only way to tell is by connecting a working LCD Screen. I connected a cracked screen from a previous repair and the screen was not showing the same symptoms as the original one.

A Phone call to my supplier and 24 hours later I receive the new 17″ LCD Screen. The Photos below show the fitting process.

Step 1 New LCD Screen

Step 2 Connect the Screen cable

Step 3a Connect the backlight to the inverter

Step 3b it only goes in one way

Step 4a Attach the top screen bracket

Step 4b Screw it in at the top

Step 5 screw in the screen hinges at the sides

Step 6a Push the lid back onto the lcd screen

Step 7a Screw the hinges back to the lid

Step 8a Attach the screen bezel

Step 8b Clip in the bezel all around the lid

Step 9 Screw in the 5 screw around the bezel

Step 10 Push back in the rubbers

Step 11 Remove the protective plastic

Step 12 All done nice and shiny

Once I got it back to the workshop (Home) I had to strip it down to the motherboard. Alot of laptops have a large cover to take off the back which reveals the heatsink and fan HSF but not with the the HP DV6000.

It doesn’t take long to open the laptop and with the newer HP laptops like this HP use minimal screws to hold it all together although there are nuts to undo on this model before the palmrest can come off.

Well on with the photos, I took these photos during the the rebuilding of the laptop but I guess you can start in reverse to undo one.

Step 4 Attach the fan on to the heatsink

Step 6 Lift the black tape to reveal the screw hole

Step 7 The HFS fitted onto motherboard

Step 8 Connect the front IO panel

Step 9 Connect the power socket cable

Step 10 second power cable connected

Step 11 Push in the Mini PCI Express Caddy

Step 12 Mini Express port fitted

Step 13 All Ready for palmrest

Step 14 Put the flat power cables through the large hole

Step 15 Leave them loose for now

Step 16 Connect the palmrest flat cable

Step 17 Clip in the palmrest to the base

Step 18 Screws along DVD-RW slot

Step 19 Attach the rear panel before the screen

Step 20 Attach the LCD Screen

Step 21 Plug in the screen Cable

Step 22 Attach the flat power cables

Step 23 Plug in the keyboard

Step 24 Fit the keyboard before clipping in the power strip

Step 25 Time to Screw it all down

Step 26 Install the memory, Hard Drive, DVD-RW and Screw in the Mini PCI Nuts
